    Sunroof Wont TILT

    Hey Guys,

So I've got an 85 325e with the power sunroof. The open and close works flawlessly, it wasn't until recently i discovered the E30 sunroof should be able to tilt.

From full close when I press close again (to activate tilt) all I hear is a single pop sound but no tilt.. Since it doesnt tilt i cant see inside the mechanism. My thought is the supports are broken.

Does anyone have a write up on how to remove the sunroof without making it go into tilt?

As it happens, I had mine apart this weekend. Mine will tilt with some help. You'll have to search around or look in the Bentley but open the roof about half way. With plastic pry tools or equivalent, pry the front of the trim panel away from the roof (half a dozen clips as I recall). Now close the roof with the trim panel loose. Once the roof is closed, you can slide the trim panel back into the headliner.

This will give you access to the mechanism. Mine will tilt without the trim panel and will tilt with some help with the trim panel installed. I think the tilt function in the motor or clutch is just old and tired.

When you reinstall the trim panel be careful when you close it for the first time that you make sure the panel is in place properly on the outside edges. I almost tore mine.
