    NEW Gas Gauge Issue? HELP!

While I knew it was inevitable, my gas gauge started acting up on my way home the other day. Initially I wasn't concerned because I knew this was a common issue and could be diagnosed fairly quickly.
However, I have already added solder to the connection point where the gauge bolts in and I already sanded down the grounding poles. Sadly the gauge is still acting up. I will post a video/link soon but for now here are my symptoms/things I've noticed...

1)Gauge movement is generally correlated with my throttle position, almost like the MPG meter, but nowhere near as smooth. Otherwise, it sits in the full position.
2)The movement is quick and spastic, and moves around almost as fast as the tachometer.
3)My general knowledge of electronics/wiring would leave me to believe this is a ground issue or something is shorting, not sure.

Any and all advice/recommendations are hugely appreciated. I would have put this in the electronics section, but I'm not exactly sure that is the problem. Thanks guys.

I would remove the sender unit and check to see if it is stuck or sticky.
