300 miles maiden voyage, brake light and the worlds most obnoxious sound (videos)

Just picked up my 89 325iC and drove from Cleveland home to Detroit with the top down. Car performed wonderfully just a few odd things. Well one odd thing and another that if continues unsolved will surely result in me burning the car to the ground.

The brake lining light would sort of flicker, did it maybe 3 times in a 3 hours drive so not a huge deal but something I want to address if needed. Obviously 90% of the drive was at highway speed 70-80 and very little brake usage so I thought it was odd.

Secondly is this god forsaken screech! I feel like it only started about 2/3 into the drive. Maybe even just the last 20-30 minutes, or I didn't notice it but once I did. Dear god it's killing me. The top is down and obviously something is rubbing together but I'm hoping it common and has been pinpointed by other owners so I can lube it or whatever the hell.

The brake light is one of the most annoying light to figure out. After about one week of not being able to find the culprit, I just removed the cluster light bulb. The squeaky noise seems to come from under the dash. It could come from anywhere. Try to find the rubbing marks. Good luck.

The brake lining light is probably on because of wear to a brake pad that's just enough to let the not firmly mounted sensor come on with vibrations or bumps. That, or you just have a loose/corroded connection at the outboard plug. It's also worthwhile to look at the wires that feed from the outboard plug through the open body hole.

That squeak sounds a lot like the tonneau cover not being firmly secured, although it might be a loose nut holding the actual top.

lol that noise is the latch that locks the tonneau cover shut. Mine only makes that noise when the top is up. When the top is down it's pushing up on the tonneau enough so that it can't rub

You could lube it or get some kind of rubber tape to go around the tonneau latch

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels
