    NEED help!!

    Hello everyone,
I've searched everywhere to find answers but can't seem to find the right answer...
I've got an 86 E30, took it for a drive after it sitting for a month, temp guage was rising so I parked it and turned it off before it went into the red.
Smoke came from the radiator area, followed by some burnt smell.
Thought it was the thermo so I changed it. Now the car won't turn over, crank, nothing.
Everything works still, just won't crank.
Thought it was the starter, so I went to hit it, removed the intake hose to find gas in there. Throttle body was full of gas too.
Cleaned it all up and went to start it, still nothing. Then when the key went back one notch the cooling fan turned on and wouldn't turn off until I took the key out.

What in the world could be happening???
    Thanks

Hmmm. Lots going on. How's your belt looking? And what's the battery voltage at?

Belts are all new, and I don't have a volt meter, but even having it hooked up to my e46 with jumper cables still nothing. The battery seems fine, fuel pump primes, etc.

Is the motor seized? Is the starter solenoid clicking? Will the motor turn over manually? (put it in reverse and gently try to rock the car back and forth)

Motor turns over manually, and the solenoid does click

Check your wiring. Sounds like some finnicky shit happened and that burning smell may have been some wires if you were unlucky

I want to say one of the crank position sensors. The burning smell could be the plastic insulation. What kind of smoke was it? A lot of white smoke?

Best thing you could do is stick a flashlight down all over the radiator and front of the motor and see if you notice anything burnt or frayed

I'm stumped. Report back after poking around a bit!

Thanks everyone, after work I'll crawl around with a flashlight. It wasn't necessarily a lot of white smoke, but it looked like it came out of the front of the radiator, but that could have been because of the fan...
Also, when I changed the thermo, the coolant leaked a little on the alternator, and I'm assuming the ground wire to the block at the bottom. Maybe it shorted out and that's why it won't start? I've never seen a car do this before lol

" removed the intake hose to find gas in there. Throttle body was full of gas too"

Sounds like your fuel pressure regulator has failed, pull the vacuum hose off the FPR and crank the engine. If you see fuel coming out of the FPR vacuum connection then the diaphragm has failed and neat unregulated fuel is being pumped into the intake manifold.

If this is the case your plugs may be fouled and need cleaning (after you've replaced the FPR).

You might want to check for fuel in the cylinders too. If present, clean it out, lube the pistons with oil, and manually rotate the engine a few times before attempting to start the car.

I am with you on this, but he says that the car no longer cranks over.

He needs to jumper pins 37 and 80 on the fuel pump relay.

OP do this (fuel relay is usually a green one in the middle of two orange relays, located outside of the fuse box) and see if fuel comes out of the tiny hose that attaches to the fuel pump relay.

Sorry for the late response everyone, been busy with work. Turns out I have the starter and solenoid a beat down with a big wrench and she finally turned over. But I'll do what you guys mentioned to try and figure out the gas. Thanks everyone!
