They go on the end of the shifter, In where the selector rod goes into the shifter. You take out the white bushings and put those in.

Are you sure? On the website it looks like it is replacing the rubber black piece in the middle which goes on the front of the linkage

Im pretty sure McCoolidge is right. I don't have a whole lot of experience on these cars as of now. But on my vw rabbit the shifter setup was the same way. Those go on the bottom on each side and a bolt goes through them usually holding the linkage on. Hope this helps.

Go to product catalog, BMW products and then go to short shifters
Go to parts in detail and hit delrin carrier bushings and look at the animation.

Not sayin you guys are wrong I am just confused by what you are telling me and how I am interpreting the website.

            Thanks

neg, they go on the rear of the tranny, that white bushing is already stiff whereas the rubber is really soft
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

so it is the black rubber bushing in the middle of the pic correct?

I think you are the one the helped me before but I couldn't find the response so thanks again.

Also I have an '88 ic, I am not going to have to rebuild the console right? I shouldn't have a sheet-metal console.

Yes, those replace the rubber black piece: they are carrier bushings.

They do help some. The carrier flexes; these will eliminate that flex completely.

So instead of TCD doing it for $150, The BavAuto place here will do install the whole thing for $40.

I just need to make sure....The UUC bushings (black) in the first thread replace Part #2 in this picture correct?
