    cig lighter starter switch

any way to do this? I think id be pretty nifty as theft protection, and it would just be sweet. I was thinking if i wired it to the radio power wire also that i might be able to retain the power funtion since it turns off when cranking but that would probaby be asking for trouble. What do you guys think?

    Pretty sure it's possible.

Run the wires from the ignition system to the cig liter...when the lighter is present and pushed, the contact is made, making the engine start....hmmm.
    Interesting.

yeah thats what i was thinking. Then jsut have another outlet under the seat or something If i ever need power. Anyone know what the wires that go to the seat are for? maybe i could use those for power. I guess you'd have to make sure no one else put any chargers or anything in there since it would activate the starter.

Can anyone tell me which wires i will need from the ignition switch? my car is spread all over the garage so it would be hard to figure it out.

it seems that there is continuity between the big red wire, and the big black wire when the switch is in the position for starting. So i seems I should splice the big red wire to there, and disconnect the black wire and run it to the lighter? is this right? then i can also use the red wire for power under the seat or something

i remember while doing my 5-spd swap, that some wires need to be connected for the car to start, down where the shifter and reverse light plug is...is this the same on reg 5 spd cars? cause if it is...im sure theres a ways to wire up the cig lighter to switch when pressed blah blah

I'd suppose the wires you're talking about would be to make sure the autobox was in "P" before you start the car, or else it wouldn't start, so I imagine such wires would not be present in manual cars.

The wires may be present, and jumpered together to complete the circuit. I don't know E30s very well, however the E28 clutch cruise control switch is like this in Auto cars. It's present yet jumpered closed.
