Is there a simple way to determine if my car was converted to r134a?

If it has large fittings, maybe 15mm it's probably been converted. You can also look for stickers in the engine bay or on the expansion valve.
Most E30s also got the single wire pressure switch (at the drier) conversion at the same time.
