    Help Diagnosing Window Regulator Issue?

    Hey,

So my passenger window stopped working on my coupe just recently. It will not budge at all, however I do hear a VERY taint tick when pressing down and a slightly louder tick pressing up (from the door).

The lights also dim ever so slightly, so from my understanding the circuit is fine and is drawing power.

Am I safe to assume that the regulator needs to be replaced? Is there anything that can be done to repair it? Perhaps lube it if it is seized?

    Thank you in advance!

Have someone lay their hands down flat on the window and press/pull down when you hit the switch. This often frees up "broken" windows.

If that doesn't work you're going to pull the door card and diagnose the issue, right?

Sounds like the motor and/or regulator are sticky. Remove door card, spray with brake clean to remove the old gunk, let dry, spray with lithium grease or similar. If you're feeling dedicated, remove the motor, take it apart, and clean the brushes inside.

Thanks guys! Pushing the window down didn't help, BUT it did "unfreeze" after the car was parked in the sun for a while. Can I get away with relubing everything wihtout taking the regular out/ rebuilding the motor?

Would you advise I spray some WD40 into the motor? I haven't taken the door apart yet, have been super busy and just wanted to take care of it all together when I do find the time!

In a word, no. You'll have to remove the old grease and replace it in the manner I described. Also, do not put lubricant inside the motor. Just clean off the copper parts with brake clean and scotch-brite. You can clean the regulator in the door, but the motor has to be removed.
