    my tachometer.. wtf?

i was putting into place a gauge cluster i bought off a member for bimmerforums.

I put the cluster into place and everything was going great, but as i was putting in the screw that holds that plastic trim peice into the cluster, the tachometer started to die and come back. I screwed it in all the way and the tachometer just died! So i took the screw back out and the tachometer/mpg gauge were still dead and also the light behind the tempgauge that lights it up at night wont come on to. The temp gauge and everything else is fine (as far as i know).

Did i do something to my circuit board by just screwing in the plastic trim???

if you look at the back of the actual board you will notice right near the screw holes there are circut board wires. if you screw it in too tight it can break the conection for what ever is near that screw. I would pull it out and see if you have cracked the board. If so it will have to be replaced.

If your speedo is jumping all over the map when you are driving it is probably your speed sensor on your rear diff. Don't know if that is what your problem is but it is a common one so I thought I would just throw it out there.

shit.. i took apart my si board and i found out the screw was actually digging into the board. i'm guessing the same thing happened with the SI board of the second cluster i bought. I'm using the same exact size screw that came out of their when i bought the car .

Is there anything i can do to this to fix it or am i gonna need a whole new SI Board?
            this is bullshittt.

yea, you can solder wires across the board from where those imprinted wires terminate.

okay, i bought an SI board off of another member on here but im still having the same problem!!!

The tachometer still doesnt work and the backlight that lights up the tach doesnt light either, everything else seems to work.

Is the Si board i bought also faulty or could there be something else?

could it be the codec chip?

could also be your sensor on your flywheel.
