    Help diagnosing no start problem

I'm trying to turn my car over after putting the new egine in and I'm just getting a clicking from the starter solenoid. No fuel from the lines, and several of the relays (windshield wiper and underdash) are humming. Not...QUITE sure what's going on...electronics is not my forte. Any help would be appreciated.

when you say "no fuel from the lines" do you mean none is leaking? or that the fuel pump is actually delivering no fuel?

the fuel pump wont build pressure until the car turns right?
The starter is clicking like a tap tap tap? How is your battery power?

        The starter clicks...once.

I didn't know if the fuel pump turned on when the ignition was in position 3 or if it had to crank.

The car was on a charger set to 'engine start'.

Will do but....um, if it's on a charger, shouldn't the engine turn over no matter what?

            Also the ICV hums.

I turned the engine over a few times with a crescent wrench just to make sure everything was okay as far as clearances and it was okay.

            I have NO idea.

Battery may be too dead, some chargers engine start feature aren't very powerful. Let the battery charge for a few hours, and crank it without the charger.

I'll give a different battery a shot BUT....
It's a 200 AMP Schumacher SE-3000 Fleet Charger.....it jumpstarted an Audi A8L with no problems, I don't think a 325i is going to pose any difficulty for it.

If it won't turn over at all, check your engine ground. This appears to me to be a pretty common problem. It looks fine, but has gone bad. C

Does that also explain the humming relays?

Hopefully I don't have a massive short circuit somewhere....

Give it a try can't hurt. Use your jumper cables, put a neg clamp on the drain plug and the other neg on the steering rack, or another place where it'll be well grounded, like a shock tower and try and turn it over.

Not too sure about the humming relays though............worth thinking about.......

                        Hurrah, problem solved!!
                        She turns over now.
All I've got to do is slap some belts on,
Throw the radiator in and tighten everything up
And we'll be ready to go.

                        Thanks everyone for your help...
Turns out a wire was disconnected.
                        Oops! :giggle:

Yeah it was the wire coming off the post on the pass. side of the engine bay. It got stuck behind the engine when we were putting it in so...I never saw it. Then I was reading the Bentley and there were FOUR wires going to the starter and I only remembered hooking up three...so...yeah.
