Running rough --> Not running at all

Few months ago I came back to my car after being in the bank for 10 minutes, turned the key and it fired... but ran like trash. It would hardly idle; the whole car was rumbling. When I tried to rev up the motor, it wouldnt get above ~350 rpm, and just kept running like crap. A few hours later I came back to the car and mysteriously it ran fine.

Last night the same issue resurfaced. (That's what I get for not looking into it back then.) Anyway this time, when I came back after a few hours, the car won't run at all. I turn the key and it fires up, and then immediately dies.

I'm a poor college kid, and although I don't mind getting my hands dirty on the weekends, I'm terrible at diagnosing these types of issues. My uncle suggested maybe it was a bad fuel pump/filter, but he isn't a mechanic either, and I don't really want to replace these parts just to have it not be the problem.

Ultimately, I think sending it to the shop is the best choice. Anyone have any suggestions for me before I have it towed over to the shop?

Fuel pump and filter is the first thing I thought too. Judging by the start then die immediately. But I'm no E30 expert.

if it was wet outside or really moist I would say faulty spark plug wires, Mine did it and putting new wires in solved the problem.

Check the coolant temp sensor and wiring.

Intermitant issues like this are usually electrical in nature
