I have been my 86 325es for the first few times since friday and i am not sure but i think it is running way too rich. i filled it up to half a tank and within 45 minutes of driving on three different occasions the tank has gone down to 1/4 tank. when i drive it for around 15 minutes i get out and shut it off and it smells like rubber is burning, but not like burnt tire rubber. it is different than that. could that be from it running too rich? i have checked all the lines and see no leaking gas or anything. any suggestions?

You know I had the same problem and my gas mileage on the highway was around 15mpg and maybe 18 in the city. I thought I had replaced everything and I was running out of ideas. I take my transfer pump out of my gas tank and it was dead. My car was running off of the main pump(high pressure pump). Replaced it and it now runs much smoother and no more smoke, the faint smoke that was coming out of my exhaust was fuel.

hhhmmm, yeah i filled it up all the way this weekend and it hasnt gone down any after roughly 40 miles. though when i push in the clutch and are coasting to a stop the gas gauge bobs like a motherfucker. literally, it jiggles all the way to empty and back up to full. it only steadies when i accelerate. its wierd. but i dont think it is running rich anymore and it makes no more wierd smells. was probably just because it hasnt run for 2 years. but now it runs very well and i am very happy with it. though when it is not at operating temperature it shakes to the point where i can feel it........
