Dear Forum:
I have worked on Motronics a few years ago, when I owned a late '80s 911. I've been restoring an '87 E30, but many of the components look different and seem to be located in different places. Most of my work to date on the BMW has been under the car and I'm still getting acquainted with it in some ways.
Where is the ECU on this car? The 911 had a DME relay, where is that on the E30? In order to perform a compression test, you should disconnect the ignition module. My manual shows that as located on the firewall to the right of the master brake cylinder. The picture in my manual shows a unit that doesn't look at all like what I have. If the circular harness on my firewall is the ignition module, how does it come apart? It looks like it might unplug from the bottom.
Your wisdom is appreciated.
Steve
