What are these two holes for?

    Hello everyone,

First of al let me introduce myself. I'm Emiel, 23 y/o and I live in The Netherlands near Nijmegen. Been working on my '88 e30 for a while now and i'm starting to build her up again.

Now, it's been a while since i've removed the dashboard. And I don't seem to remember what these two holes are for behind the dashboard. Do they even have a function i.e would i be better of welding them shut?

Thanks in advance for those that wish to reply.
    Greetings, Emiel Schipperheijn

I'm not 100% sure but I think those are for holding the isolation pad up against the firewall?

Nothing mounts to or through those holes. Just there to make the car lighter, there are many of those throughout the car.
