    Differential Oiil

My differential has a small leak, not bad enough for me to see oil on the ground but it is wet. I might not change the seals asap but was wondering should I top up my differential fluid or just totally flush it and put in new fluid? I havn't done it since owning the car and I don't know when the last time the PO did it. I've had the car for 7 months I think.

I do hear whinning from the rear when I accelerate and are at higher speeds, so I'm thinking I do have to put more fluid in the differential. Just wondering if I should top it up or change it entirely, ie. flush it out.

Check it to see if there's enough in there. If there isn't and it looks clear then I'd just top it off since it's leaking anyway, if it looks dark or dirty drain it and refill. Of course that's if you're not going to fix the leak right away....................

Why not just replace the seal AND flush and replace the fluid at the same time?

no dont pay a mechanic, im a mechanic at a local Tacoma BMW/volvo shop and we charged 95 bucks after tax to do it. you can do it yourself very easily with a 14mm hex head and 2 quarts of whatever oil you choose. it will cost you... 20bucks? maybe and take under a half hour

the oil, the seals should be pretty straight forward as well though i would say 2 hours for the seals & oil.

ditto. Might want to add Lube Gard LSD additive (or equivalent) also.

No doubt! They say it's made with whale sperm. I've gotten it on a shirt before and the odor never, ever goes away.
