I've seen a broken dual mass flywheel for a Dodge Cummins, customer complaint.............clutch shutter/vibration. A dual mass flywheel is like a clutch disc, two piece design with heavy spring buffers. Just as with a clutch disc dual mass flywheels are designed to dampen vibrations. if the internals come apart there's no more buffer between the two pieces and they'll just be banging up against each other.
I think you already answered your own question earlier when you said the problem is betwwen the crank and the trans. It might be a pain in the ass but you should probably drop the trans, clutch and flywheel and inspect everything. If you kep driving it around things could get worse
By the way this could be coincidental & not related to the work you've ben doing on the carLeave a comment:

road test results:
It increases in severity as Load increases..
i was in 5th gear, doing around 45, at around 2000-2500RPM;
with my foot barely on the pedal.. it sounds like it would in neutral at the same RPM,
BUT,, When i would push the pedal alot more or even to the floor, (more air/gas coming through and i would assume more torque..),
it gets more severe.. and "Thumps" louder..
its still almost inconcievable at idle speeds.. but showing up around 2000 when in neutral, getting much worse with RPMs.
When starting off in 1st and moving, it seems to show up soon, almost as i start to turn the wheels..
Does this seem like a flywheel problem to you all?
also, being a dual-mass flywheel, what could have possibly gone wrong with it to be acting like this?
Thanks alot for all the help.Leave a comment:

ive never touched the clutch., so i have no clue.
ill check the torx bolts, but its a damned lumpy thumping vibration, not just a slight buzz...
meaning, its more like a fucked unbalanced flywheel, than a missaligned shaft.. and it cant be anything on the transmission, as it happens with the clutch in or out.. in gear or neutral,
it is completey engine side isolated.
i dont have a lift, just jackstands and a jack..Leave a comment:

maybe some how the spline between the tranny and the motor got bent...due to unsupported loads on the transmission....too check that, check to see if the tranny to motor torx bolts are tight.

This is possible. When was the last time the clutch was done?
Buut there is no way that it could be the driveshaft since it does it when the car is not in gear or moving.Leave a comment:

pull ure damn driveshaft off and see if it still does it.

once you get the drive shaft off, the transmission isnt really that hard, its just heavy and hard to maneuver the damn thing out unless you have a lift, then you still have to deal with the awkward maneuver-it-out-above-your-head situation.Leave a comment:

Dude, read the thread!
Man I don't know what to tell you. Swap the mounts and see what happens. Maybe the rubber mounts just masked your flywhell or pressure plate going to shit.Leave a comment:

My vote is on bad driveshaft.
Probably one or both of the U Joints or shot.
That or the CSB or the guibo.Leave a comment:

i fucked something up for sure, its a Horrible vibration and i cannot even drive it due to not being able to rev past 2100rpm without engine/car ripping apart vibrations..
theres no way urethane tranny mounts would make this small preexisting problem into something so horrible would they?
i never noticed it before all this.. and i dont think just urethane mounts would make it this evident especially if i noticed nothing at all before..Leave a comment:

Yep, just like I said I don't think that you fucked it up doing that.Leave a comment:

right, i was trying my best with you guys to narrow it down, so that if i couldnt figure it out with the help ive gotten, id at least have a well informed something to tell the mechanic...
can anyone tell me though, how this could hurt the flywheel? the actually torquing of the tranny output flange (170Nm) , while holding the crank bolt..
doesnt it generally recieve all sorts of forces in this range?Leave a comment:

You say it is not the driveline, happens when the car is stopped or driving, the engine sounds fine, clutch in or out still happens. This has gotten rid of a lot of problems it could have been.
If you don't know how to get in the tranny, my best suggestion at this point is take it to a BMW mechanic and let him dig around to find the problem. Other wise it will be hard for us to help.Leave a comment:

id love to, but i dont know how, ive never touched that area..
also, it is not clutch dependant.. meaning, it does nothing different wether the clutch is in or out..Leave a comment:

I'm with this dude.I think you just answered your own question. There is only a very select number of parts between the crank and the tranny. I think you are going to have to take your tranny off and check all the parts. If it is a bad flywheel it will not lie flat on the ground. Maybe it is your clutch, pressure plate, TOB, Slave cylinder, who knows... you say you have checked everything under the car all you have left is the interior mechanical components. I say if it is bugging you that much get in there and figure it out.Leave a comment:
