note on vibrations.. The single mass flywheel causes some subtle transmission noises that are normal.. this sounds like marbles in a can, it's not high or low pitch, just lot of tiny little vibrations transmitted from the crankshaft, through the f/w, pressure plate, clutch disk into the trans

Also, our transmissions make a subtle high-pitch noise when the synchros engage, especially when selecting second gear. I notice it all the time when I down-shift into 2nd, prior to a turn (for example). the high-pitch noise is the transmission input shaft speeding up... or is it the intermediate shaft? hm... I'm not sure.. anyway.. it's one of the transmission shafts speeding up.

However, clicking, clunking or grinding is not normal.

        flywheel,
        or
        drive pully

if it stops when you press the clutch in while at a stand still then its the clutch..

Im leaning to a bent drive pully...

wait i forgot i have to call things proper a "harmonic balancer'

I will be doing ltw f/w and new clutch kit come spring. So hopefully that'll resolve my vibration issues.

In regards to the harmonic balancer... is that by any chance the crank pulley? Even if it is not, I wish someone sold a CNC machined underdrive pulley for our cars. All I've seen is an alternator pulley. I don't use the A/C so that could be dropped for weight savings, in addition to using a lighter weight material to make the pulley itself.

yes.. if you pull it off wrong or do some back yard style hammer removal then theres a nice chance that the pully is bent.. and outta ballance... so when the engine runs weather its idle or rev'd you would get a nasty vibration....

              +1
