    M30 help

Sorry mods if this in the wrong place

I found a M30 at the junkyard and of course someone has already taken the AFM.

Anyways they want $100 for me to pull it out for the complete engine.

Now the side of the car says "died" but sometimes this doesn't always mean broken. What can I do to make this a good buy? And How can I tell if it might still work with alittle TLC? I wouldn't be using it, I would just sell it, so what would it be worth?

Also, I am about 90% sure that it is an M30. The intake says 3.0/3.5 on it. M30 right?
    Thanks

3.5L M30 in an E23 L7/735i. Run of the mill Motronic 1.0 M30 from the mid-late 80s. Make sure the crank turns before you spend money on it.
