    Elephant trunk

Is the elephant trunk for draining the cowl compartment (the area below the windshield inside the air vents). I've heard different things, wanted to make sure.

Yeah, it's the little black rubber spouty thing nearly behind the valve cover on an M20 car

Also, check for junk in that area as the cowl also drains out each side behind the fenders.

Yeah I know, $35 is so steep for a rubber piece. Mines hard as a rock and I can’t get it back on after taking it out to clean

I just ordered a new one, cheapest I could find was 40 incl shipping :rippedoff: I wouldn’t leave it off for long. Without it, water would probably drain behind that firewall insulation where it would never dry. I can’t deal with anymore rust issues haha. Just to be sure, you twist it clockwise to put back on right?

I was able to soften mine a bit when I had my E30...soaked it overnight in some rubber and plastics conditioner

Clean the opening where it goes back in fairly well and use a bit of dish soap to finagle it back in

Put it in the microwave or soak in hot water then try putting it back in.
