Hey car question that is not BMW please help

Hey guys. Good to see everyone again. Ok here is my question. Since my recent run ins with the law I had to take my BMW off insurence and drive my 1995 Dodge ram. I am having some problems with it that I am hoping someone might be able to trouble shoot for me. When I start the car it idles really rocky and if I shift into reverse or drive and don't give it gas it will stall. I need to keep my right foot on the gas and keep it at about 1000rpm for it to sound ok and to keep running which makes me have to brake with my left foot. This is becoming a huge problem cause with the v8 it is sucking up gas having to idle the car manually and keep giving it gas. Can anyone help me? Its also got a loud knocking which I think is the cat. Could this be my problem? Thanks guys
    Peace

I'd suggest taking it to the dealer and having them plug in the diagnostics machine. Is your Check Engine light on?

    O2 sensor perhaps?

possibly idle air control motor, i'm not sure though, but if you have to play with the throttle to keep it idling that is most likely it.

Raise the Idle speed. My Auto volvo does the same thing I just bumped up the idle speed by tightening the throttle cable and problem solved.

Yeah I was gonna take it to the dealer but they want 100 bucks just to diagnose it and that sucks. I can work on the car I just need to figure out what it is then I can fix it. No check engine lights are on or anything. I just can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for the help and let me know if you can think of anything else.

Ok, here's a stupid question, when was the last time you changed your air filter? IS it possible that it is dirty enough to make it run bad?

When did this start? Was it afer you did anything to it, or did it just start doing it one day?

I work with these trucks, you should check your TB, when it's dirty, with carbonic , starts to fail, also check the Steeper sensor, that sensor regulates the idle...

The first time this started happening I took it to a shop and they said there was "GUNK" in the throttle body. Yes I live in NC and the stupid redneck said GUNK. I am not sure how to check this can you give me some ideas and where the sensor is and how I might know if it is bad or not? THanks alot man

the thrttle body, well I think you know where is right? in the center top of the engine where elbows goes to it....anyway...disconect some of the conectors...take out the gas and trans cables also the cruise control cable , then with a 13mm wrench or something take out the 4 bolts and then proceed to clean the blades and all with carb medic spray or something like that...then take out the bolts form the steeper motor, is in the side and is bigger and fatter than the other one(TPS) clean the shaft, put all together and test...if persiste, may chek with the Sacnner (CRBIII) in your local dealet your sensors...could be another thing,.....also check for vaccum leak....
