starter sounds like a machine gun

just like the title says. a real fast clicking and when it stops it sounds like it hit a bell.

any ideas ?

recently done...
timing belt and all
valve job
plugs

just switrched out with a fresh battery. started and purrs.
gettimg a new one for this 85 325e right now.
