My key/lock issue (Need your help)

Just got my 91 318i sedan, it only came with one key. It is the master type key (with the built in light) it's suposed to work for everything on the car, but it doesn't. It only works for the ignition, so leaving me the inability to lock my doors, trunk, or glovebox. I am thinking that the ignition was replaced at some point and with a different key.

My question is does BMW have another master key I can buy and use for everything (except the igintion obviously), can I get them to cut me one for my lock (without removing the lock), or do I have to remove the complete lock and have a locksmith make one?

Any help is greatly appreciated, this is the 1st issue that needs to be resolved before I can make this my daily.

unbolt the rear trunk latch. Take it to a locksmith. It will fit your doors and glovebox. I speak from experience
I think its 2 nuts you take off.

72.50 was what mine cost. But that was at a hick place here in town. As soon as i said BMW their eyes lit up.
So you could probably get it cheaper

Just bring the VIN and proof the car is yours to a dealer. When i lost both keys for my car I did this and a new key was only 16 or somthing.

Total pain in the ass. And it took days for me to get my keys.
This is a quick solution if nothing else.
I do agree the dealer would be a good thing to do in the long run.

yea dealer is an hour drive for me, but i do go up there sometimes.

so if i go to the dealer can they just make me one onsite there, or do they order one?
