I know most people are not big on modding the m42, but I am sure some of you have done some things to it. Anyone one chipped it, done bigger intectors, short shifter, ect. I just want to know what you guys think is good. My engine only has 120k so plenty of life left, I just want to get some better performance before a do a swap later in its life.

Oh contare!
There is actually a large group of M42 enthusiast here. Sadly, for the moment our site M42club.com is under repair. But keep checking.
My 318is will be getting springs and shocks next week along with some routine repairs.
Next will be a chip, intake, exhaust and more suspension work. Then, I want rims and body work.
keep us updated!

I recomend you complete a search, this topic has been beaten to death.
Other than that Robs article is a good one. Dont try and get power from bolt ons with the m42, it came pretty well tuned from the factory. I dont know of many 1.8l fours that can pull like our 318's can, so thats saying something. Focus on the suspension and braking, thats where this car can shine.Back to my roots

Hey man,,, the only mod i've done so far mechanical-wise is a z4 3.0 shift lever... Damn bro, you MUST get this mod, it's such a quicker sweeter shift than stock.. Talk to patrick at BMA and he can get you a killer deal on the whole swap,, takes about 15 minutes to actually do! :D good luck with your m42 and finding good mods.. I plan on a turbo in the spring, so that's where I'm headed with it!!Project e30 m3 starts now..... :D

for the 318is I would highly recommend the z4 2.5l lever. Its short and not knotchy. Its got a great feel to it and nothing has to be bent to make it fit.
I know I started a thread a little while ago about M42club being up soon but it really is almost up now. There were some issues w/ the email and as far as I have heard they are fixed. So now all that is left is checking the database. One site is going back up before us but we are 2nd!! Cross your fingers everyone///Alpinweiß II 24v 91' 318is, Alpinweiß III 99' 323i, 04' Yamaha R6 SE for sale, 00' VW GTi, 83' El Camino BURNED, 01' P71sold, 92' Miatasold
