    temp guage no workie

the instrument cluster temp guage doens't even get pass the blue mark, it moves from its resting spot and stops at the blue even after the car has been idling and driven around the block a few times. I feel the upper and lower radiator hoses and they seem to be flowing. The upper hoses is the hot hose and the lower hose is the cooler one correct? I've going through two temp sensors that go into the radiator and still the same issue. I've done the m50 swap and i've checked, double, triple, quadruple checked check the wiring diagrams and it's right. what else can it be? TIA

You are right about the hoses. Do you get heat in the car? Could be the cluster. I had a bad cluster that would do the same thing (my spedo and gas level did not work eaither) Changed the cluster with a known good one and problem solved. Couldn't it be the SI batteries? That seems to be common on our cars.

The sensor on the radiator is not the one that drives the gauge. The gauge sender is on the inkake side of the head below the manifold.

Mine would never get above the blue mark either, but the hoses would feel hot. I put in a new thermostat and all was well. Granted, I'm sure this was the original 1987 thermostat too.

yes, i do get heat in the car and it gets hot, i dont think it's the si batteries neither. Thing is it's not like the needle doesn't move at all, it moves to the blue and stops. So would the needle be stuck and i have to take the cluster off?

Would that cause the problem i am having right now? even when the car has been sitting for days i turn the key to the on position and it moves up to the blue like it should, and no further.

when you did the m50 swap did you swap the e36 temp sender in the head for the m20 or s14 temp sender? if you didn't, that is your problem.

You need to replace the rear most temp sensor (#13) on the block with the one from your m20.
