    car won't start, help?

i have just recently finished installing a 94 m50 in my 89 325is. the engine cranks but gets no spark. it ran in the car it was pulled from but i do not know if the car ran as i bought it with a bad engine. i know the dme is good cause it starts my friends car. i have replaced the crank sensor with a brand new oem part, switched the coil packs and engine wiring harness. is there anything in the car itself that would make the engine not run, or anybody just have an idea on what it could be?

all i can suggest to you is that you go over your wiring

      then go over it again

very good chance the problem is in the wiring

i used the pin chart from akgmotorsport and have double and even quadruple tested everything. i have access to bmw's dealer online program for electrical schematics and have used that to continuity test all pins on the dme to make sure they are hooked to appropriate locations at the plug ends.

make sure that you are not powering up immobilizing wire on ecu

checked on schematics, it seems like the immobilizer controls the starter, which works. i did find that out of the 3 relays attached to the engine harness only the reddish one gets power to it, the others (blue and white) don't. any suggestions on what to look for? i'm getting a little snow blind with these damn schematics. thanks.

when i did m50 swap i didmt have wiring diagrams first so i tried to figure it out by myself.mbw wire colors are almost identical on every models like brown is chassis, red +30power and green is ignition. and here come mistake. m50 wiring loom had two green wires. one was ignition sense and other was immobilizing wire that goes to ecu. so i powered them both up and had no spark. this immo wire gets powered when CODE function is dialled in on trip computer. no immobilizing circuit is added on starter on any bmw car by the factory. i could confirm pin numbers on ecu in the evening, i have wiring loom off my car

also if immobilizing circuit is activated it powers up dme relay( red and red with white stripes wires going in one of relays you said) other relays( fuel pump and lambda heating relay) are not activated when car is cranked, also injectors are silent and no spark

thanks very much for your help so far. as much info. you could provide me with on this matter would be appreciated. the schematics i've been looking at only show the starter immobilization circuit, but when i look closer it states that the starter was only on the 92 engine. it says it was changed on later models to what you are talking about, but does not show the circuit. as far as the green wires on m50 harness, i have 3. 1 plain green for ignition(dme)connected to ignition on car, 1 for fuel pump/ oxygen sensor also connected to car's ign., and 1 green with white stripe that is not connected. the green with white states it's for the reverse light switch.
