Cylinder 6 and 4 arnt firing

theres fuel on the spark plugs, and the spark plugs are firing. what could cause it not to fire?

there is also no coolant in the oil so no headgasket leak.

maybe the spark plugs are drowning. In fuel... from excessive injectors....

He's using 30# injectors w/an SMT6 to dial back delivery, and a stock FPR.

I've got a 325i in the driveway, we swapped the untouched AFM onto his car, and still ran into the same problems. Seems cyls 4 & 6 aren't firing, at least, when you pull the plug wire while the engine is running there is no change. Any other wires pulled result in a stumbling idle that eventually causes it to stall. Any ideas? We checked all the plug wires for resistance, which came out fairly even. All 6 are getting spark and fuel; we're going to do a compression test tomorrow, etc.

Have you tried switching out the spark plugs? Doning a simple plug wire test (put the wire next to a ground and look for arc) might not catch a broken spark plug. Detonation is one of the leading causes of spark plug failure, it can crack them. I would look into that, could save ya some time!

he ended up replacing the whole fuel rail in his case, and it fixed the problem. I think E30godz's problem may rely with the AFM though, since that's what seems to have caused problems.

That could have caused something else bad to happen, hence the reason it still misfires when they put a known working AFM on there.

a car should run without an AFM at idle. It'll be crap, but it'll work.

That's what we're afraid of. I'm thinking the fuel rail may be to blame.

i dont know how the fuel rail would be to blame for anything though...how can it "fail"
