Is the fan in front of the motor always supposed to be running? I've read some threads where they say the fan should only come on when the engine gets warm. Mine is on any time the engine is on, and my car runs cooler than I'd like.

Question About the Aux Fan

The one attached to the engine, or the one in front of the radiator-a/c?
If you mean the engine driven fan, it will always spin even when the clutch is disengaged. I *think* it's designed to engage/disengage more with engine rpm than temp, though it may have a bimetal temp spring in it. I've never spent much time looking at them.
The electric fan will run any time your HVAC system is anything but completely off and the a/c button is depressed.
Unless you have a car without a/c, then I have no clue. :psigpic

The thermostatic clutch fan is the engine driven one. It is intended to run anytime the motor is running, but not at 100% lock. When the clutch heats up it will lock tighter, causing more airflow. The clutch is heated by the radiator.
Easy test? Spin it while the engine is cold. It should spin freely. Warm the car to operating temps and it should spin far less freely.
The AUX fan is in front of the radiator/AC condensor and is controlled by a switch mounted in the radiator AND the AC system.
I do not have a normal fan at all in mine, just the AUX fan, run from a switch in the dash.
