    car wont idle

well i just got done replacing the water temp sender and i had to disconnect a few things and take off the intake manifold and now the car wont idle. It just starts up and dies. If i give it some gas it seems to rev to about 3000rpm and stay there for a second. what could be wrong?

if u disconnected some things from the intake manifold, just look around closely and see if u havnt connected a vacuum hose or mabye not connected it enough, or to the correct place.

about the fluid, as long as it wasnt much u should be fine... but fill it up when u get a chance.

How about the temp sender connections? Maybe you switched between both of them?

i pretty much know its the idle control valve because i unpluged it and it did basiclly the same thing. It idles better now but the rpms still surge to like 2500rpm when i press the gas. My dad just baught some spray degreaser and im gunna try and spray that in there to clean it.

it didnt work to spray it out...now im thinking maybe its the intake manifold gasket??? it looked like it might have had a small tear in it but would it make that much of a difference?

i found this on the dinan web site

As many 850 owners are already aware, intake manifold gasket leakage typically results in a rough idle and fuel smell.

that sounds like what my problem is

i am more familiar with 6cylinder engimes but i think you should look for vacuum leaks. go through all operations that you did, also dont think that intake gasket makes that big leak that engine stalls

I had same problem when i first took the intake manifold off. There is a breather tube that goes from the crank case up to the middle of the intake manifold. If you dont have a washer and O-Ring on the bottom of the tube and a O-Ring on the top of the tube, your car wont idle or even run. I experienced this exactley how you explained it. I would look at that as my first location. Good Luck

ok the car still runs rough when first started and at about 3k rmp while driving it vibrates! only when its not warmed up and it also smells kinda funny too...any more ideas?
