headlights go BRIGHT + check engine light

This has happened before, but not for several months. I was driving along and the check engine light came on and all the lights in the car went bright for about one to two seconds. It was almost like I turned my brights on. It just did it twice to me withing 15 seconds on the way home from the movie store. I was thinking something with the alternator or ecu perhaps. Clues anyone?

Could be a voltage regulator issue. Test your battery voltage while the engine is running. It should be in the high 13s. If it gets much into the 14s when you rev the engine up you need a regulator.

      It's not a battery light?

Don't drive it until you figure it out though, a bad voltage regulator can cause some serious shit if you drive it like that.

Fuses pop from amps, not volts.

Last time this happened, months ago, I checked the voltage and it was perfect. Couldn't hurt to preplace what I think is the original alternator, but I don't just wanna throw money/parts at it. Wierd shit.

You can change just the regulator.
