Mark D vs. Jim C chips for m42???

    hello everyone,
sorry if this thread is repetitive, but i'm soon going to buy a chip for my '91 318is. i haven't done anything engine-wise for my car yet, and realistically i'll soon get a dynomax muffler, but that's about it for the next little while (starving student!).
so which chip have you guys found performs better?
    horsepower gains?
do both increase the rev limit?
    thanks for your help
    appreciate any input

The markD chip makes use of the cars very little torque more effectively than the jimC chip.

I got my knock off Jim C. used for $20 so you really can't do a lot better then that on a fixed budget.

Go for the best price between the two for now, and late when you really wanna get technical and have the money, you can upgrade if you need to.

doucy2, how did the knock-off work for you?

how about the $40 ebay chips? is it there any point in getting those?

            for example:

when i first got my car, i went all eBay crazy thinkin: 'Shit. They're just giving these chips away !'

purchased both an 'ACS' and the 'Dinan' knockoff

from god-knows-where, i gathered that the Dinan knockoff would provide stronger mid-range (flatter torque curve) while the Schnitzer chip would have a stronger high-range (peaked). I don't even know if that is true for whatever authentic ones were like.

if i do install one, i'd opt for the Dinan based on said hearsay.

but i still can't decide whether to install it or not.. (2+ yrs now)
              some say they’re crap..
some say they’re just fuckin copies..
some say put your money where you know you will be satified..

if (and when) i get the money for a Mark D - it would be installed w/out thinking twice about it.

If you want... I would be willing to do dyno runs with both of those chips on a total stock engine that has just been rebuilt to see what dyno gains they had. But you gotta send em both to me and split the dyno cost with me ;) PM me if youre interested lol

                  hmmm..

                  i truly appreciate your proposal.

as much as i'd like to see solid dyno results, i can't justify blowin the money right now for an endeavor that is likely to return negligible differences

(i.e. i'd rather put the money toward some decent headlights)

I've talked to a few people who own that chip that I just linked you to, they all like it. Also advice Dinan=POOP, even the real ones.
