Need Help, Car Will Not Start!

Okay, so this is what happend, i get out of school, and drive over to my freind justins girlfriends house to help him jump start his F250. I hook the cables up to his truck, then up to my jump start thing in the engine bay. i go start my car, and he gets in his truck and trys to start it. My car dies. I turned my car back on and tried it one more time, and right when i got out of my car...it died, again.

I unhook the cable from my car and try to start it one more time...damn thing just turns over and will not spark a start.

I have tried a few things already, such as swapin my 89 325is 173 ECU out with my brothers old Super Eta 88 ECU. Still didnt start.

Another thing i did was change the Spark plug cables with my old ones (which still worked) and still didnt work.

I am running out of ideas, and before i bring it in to my authorized dealer, i wanted to come on here and see if anybody had anymore ideas.

    Thanks for your time

Check your main and fuel pump relays.

Fuel+spark=ignition. Check for both. You can change spark plug wires all day long but if you don't have spark you aren't getting anywhere...

Remove a spark plug and connect its respective wire to it. Lay it on the intake and watch for spark as you crank.

Remove the fuel hose connected to the fuel rail. Stick the hose into a small container and look for fuel pour out as you crank. I would get someone to help you with this for safety reasons.

check your grounds as well (the grounds where there is a pan for a battery up front)

It's not the ground on the oil pan. When that's not connected, the starter won't even spin.

The engine spins all day long.

I had him check a bunch of things. For some reason I can't find my bentley - can you guys tell us which relays do what?

My multimeter is also here with me, so he can't use that either.

Could be the fuseable link in the trunk. Doing the jump start could have blown it. It is a 50 amp fuse. That will cause the spark plugs not to fire. Engine will still get fuel and turn over.

Eta ecu in an I setup shouldn't work either. So if it's the ecu then that isn't a way to test for a bad ecu.

              It's not an Eta ECU.

              It's a SuperEta ECU.

SuperEta's run Bosch 1.1, same as the IS ECU.

Only thing different is the chip, I think. And, if not, it shoudl still allow the car to start.

Had it been the eta ecu, it'd be fried, since the eta ecu is not Bosch 1.1.

Unless I am wrong to understand it this way?

I was under the impression the the Seta used the same ecu's. But never having actually seen one................

Located near the left strut tower, in order from left to right:

                    1. Main (DME) Relay- Switches current on/off to Motronic.
                    2. Fuel Pump Relay- Switches current on/off to fuel pump
                    3. 02 Sensor Heater Relay- Switches current on/off to heating element on the O2 sensor.

#1 is a 5 pin relay. #2 and #3 are 4 pin relays and are therefore interchangeable.
