    Broke a plug wire!!!

    -Dang it! I was replaceing the plugs yesterday and I snapped the #6 plug wire where the wire enters the connector. I unplugged the injector and am running on 5 cylinders now (FUN!). Was it a good idea to ground the wire, since the impulse sender runs off the #6 wire and you need current flow through it for that to work?

    -Any ideas or suggestions? Any one have a set of wires they'd like to part with?

    just buy a new set, if it broke that easy, it was probably due for replacement

      -Yeah but can't afford it now. I guess my question should be, is there any harm in running on 5 cylinders?

        im pretty sure it'll run shitty and the excess fuel not burning in that 6th cylinder will cause the catalyct covertor to fail earlier, but since you live in a state other than California, you might not care for that cat as much as I do ;)

        this is all I know that will happen, I know that there are other side effects too

          He said he unhooked the injector. I see no real harm, if you were still dumping fuel in that cylinder, it would cause problems, it'd wash oil from the cylinder wall and cause low compression, oil burning, gas in your oil...

          I'd personally run to a junkyard and grab the wire you need ASAP.

            If you'll pay shipping I'll send you a complete ignition wire loom and distributor cap from an 87 325is. The wires and such are in pretty good condition.

              Any good auto parts store will have a selection of ignition wires. Pick one up as a temp replacement.

              You could also just strip and re-crimp the wire back onto the clip. You might not even need new plug wires if you do this, assuming the wires are in good shape.

                i definately agree with the fact that you should "rig" some replacement connection for the time being, rather than being Completely ghetto and just unplugging the injector..


                re-crimp it, get a junkyard single replacement wire, or a cheap auto store generic wire.
