    '88 Check Engine light?

    Heylo all,

For some contorted reason other E30 folks have been able to check the emission fault codes on 1988 models, and I have not.

Apparently the Bentley and the (:curse: Haynes) say the CEL is supposed to flash any codes stored within about 3 seconds of the key being switched to the ON position. Mine doesn't do that. Nor does the pedal dance work either.

Checked the Bentley on the throttle switch. It is working correctly. >5volts between the outer terminals of the plug and the inner one. Tried the pedal dance but instead with the throttle thing on the throttle body. Nothing. Tried jumping the pins at the connector plug directly. Nothing.

Ugh, Houston, do we have a problem?

Well if you've done the whole stomp trick correctly and it doesn't work, one thing I've noticed with mine over time. With My 173, 525, and 380 ecus it (the stomp trick) works, but with the old 153 ecu it wouldn't. So maybe it's something to do with the particular ecu? Now wether or not this is actually an issue with all of them I can't say. I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on Saturdays........
