    Another no spark thread.

Just bought this car for $100 because it didn't run, it's an 86 e, jumped the fuel pump relay and it kicked on the pump, but i'm still not getting spark. Is there another relay i could jump and if so, how? I knew about the fuel pump from another r3vver pointing it out on another car, but i'm not sure if there's one for spark/the main relay.

    Any help would be great.

Does the pump come on without being jumped? You may have a crank position sensor problem, or the little tab that the sensor read may have fallen out of the flywheel.

Doesn't work without being jumped (that's why i jumped it). I pulled out two sensors from the transmission, not sure what each is, but they're both metal cylinders, one looks good, the bottom one looked similar to someone taking an angle grinder and grinding it down on the end. This may or may not be my problem...input?

I broke the bolt off in the tranny getting it off, this is going to be a bitch. :(

      Edit:

I got sick of waiting for it to upload, good enough. :P

As I recall, the crank position sensor on an ETA engine is in the bell housing. If that't the one that looks ground down it could be why the pump doesn't run and you have no spark or injector pulses.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah, that's where i pulled this from, there were two, one on top, one on bottom. Again, this was the one on bottom.

That could do it, yes. Also, take off the access plate on the bottom of the motor and turn the flywheel until you see the tab that the sensors read. It's a small metal block that sticks out farther than the gear teeth. If it's broken or missing the sensors wont have anything to read.

I'll check that out tomorrow when it's light outside, i crawled under there in the dark to try to find that dust shield earlier and said "fuggit". I was going to look for a bump that the sensors read.

              I'll keep posted.

              Go go $100 car.

                  Also possible.

Check of the main relay is coming on. Its the 5 pin relay right next to the fuel pump relay.

The main relay seems to be working, when i had the fuel pump bridged and removed that relay, it kicked off the pump. I'll check the fuseable link, i didn't know this car had one.

Don't forget to look at the "obvious" stuff like the coil (which generally never goes bad) or the cap and rotor or the coil wire.
