Thats not the fuel filter your looking at- its the carbon canister. The main fuel filter on your car is on driver's side just forward of rear wheel well behind a plastic cover. There is also a screen on the bottom of fuel pump in the tank. The residue is normal just wipe it out. Do you get "Check Engine" when it starts running badly?

oh so yea after i depressurized the fuel system i put it all back together and went to start it up and it ran like it was going to stall every other second. i let the car sit on the on position so the fuel pump could pressurize it back up again, and started it then and it ran a little better then i gave it gas, and it kept hesitating but then settled to a smooth idle...then it would hesitate slightly..then smooth again ...then hesitate...pretty much it was the same as if i didnt touch it

i think i have a fuel problem. i didnt get a chance to yank the filters off her but tomorrow i plan on doing so, replacing them, and clearing up my fuel lines because i think somethings clogged somewhere..

I still think its your fuel pump. My car was doing the same thing yours is doing, being inconsistent and running like shit. I am sure someone on this forum has a known working fuel pump they would sell you for cheap.

well anyway i just took the filter off and yea...i think the one i removed was the stock one because dayummm was it dirty...neway i replaced the filter with a new one....andd yea i didnt drive it just let it run @ idle but the problem was still there....maybe it will go away when i drive it but i donno

it deffinitely runs better ie getting more fuel but i think its runnin lean still and yea...i guess next step is checking the fuel pump

would the car even run if the pump was bad?
