I'm having a problem with the signals in my girlfriends '86 325e. On the left front the turn signal is burned out and I haven't made it to the store to get a replacement bulb. This means the left rear flashes really fast, but still works. Last night we went out to the car and when I turned the headlights on both signal indicators on the dash came on and stayed lit. When I tried to hit the signals nothing happened on the dash or with the actual turn signals. When I turn the headlights off the turn signals work fine (aside from the left front, which is burned out). What could this be?

Just in case this happens to anyone else, I'll tell you guys what fixed it. One of the turn signal housings was cracked just enough to allow one of the bulb contacts to push up into the housing and lose contact with the bulb. To fix this I pried the contact back down, broke about 1/2" off the bottom of a matchstick, and stuck it behind the contact, thus returning the contact to the correct position and fixing the problem.
