    Benifit in upgrading the coil?

I'm buying some new ignition wires from ireland engineering and thought about upgrading the coil. Would there be any reason to do this?

Usually I'd say dont bother with a stock engine. You are running a turbo though, so I could go either way, since youre probably only running mild boost.

Well it does have more voltage, and you are putting some performance into your engine so why not buy one for $30 to round out your other ignition upgrades.

Because the OEM system is more then adequately designed. Upgrading the coil on a mildly modded m20 is a moot point.

i wonder if a mild turbo setup is considered mildly moded.

Your car doesnt even run, so it doesnt need a coil at all 8)

I never said the stock coil was inadequate. But an after marker one will provide more votage for a better spark, will it make a difference on his car who knows. There cheap so why not just buy one.

A ignition coil will only put out as much voltage as is needed to jump the gap on the spark plug. So if you have a stock motor (meaning relatively low effort needed to make a spark) an aftermarket coil wont put out any more voltage than a stock one.

When you start creating more electrical resistance in the combustion chamber (high compression, boost, etc) then you may need more voltage than the stock coil can put out.

My car isn't registered, but I would be more then willing to shut you down in the M3.
