    heater core hose fk'd?

Ok, my heater outlet hose was leaking from the thermostat last time, so I ordered a new one.

    heres the comparison:

So, I'm guessing that this was ghetto rigged in the past. Or maybe it's supposed to be like that..

This "extra" hose is connected like this: It connects with the inlet hose at the metal part.

I'm guessing I have to cut up my hose and add these little joints in it... please correct me if im wrong. The cuts in the old hose were so jaged, so this led me to believe that it's not supposed to be like this from the factory. Or maybe this bypass is needed, but what about the other joints?

The old hose looks like a very "creative repair". Is the thing with the black knob a valve? Where did the side arm of the tee connect?
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah, the knob thing is a valve. If you untwist the cap, coolant will flow out. the open side of that joint is where to rest of the hose was connected to goto the thermostat housing.

The top 'nipple' which I circled on the old hose is where a small hose attaches that connects to a metal joint( the circle with the number 2 in it, as seen in the 3rd picture) where the heater inlet hose is also attached.

      UPDATE:
Basically I got fed up, and just cut my new hose, and put the joint in where the 'extra' hose attaches. I'm still interested in whether or not it's supposed to be like that. But I guess as long as theres no leaks I'm ok with it for now.

might be one of those prestone flush kit thingys, where you cut a hose, stick the 't' in, and flush with a hose.

Its obviously a hack job, you should have installed the whole new hose as intended. You're asking for problems with all those connections, plastic tees, and screw caps.

The more connections and things there are the more potential places for leaks. You should redo it using original parts as they're supposed to be used.

Well I didnt cut up the new hose as much as the old one, I only cut it where the small hose was attached to the outlet hose because if I didn't coolant would spray out... unless i stopped up the bypass hose somehow, but I wasn't informed soon enough and I needed to drive my car.

So I guess I need to inspect the inlet heater hose and find out how it's really supposed to be connected, and why theres an extra hose attached at that point and then I can remove the extra hose.

Would this be why my heater sucks? Because coolant is flowing between the inlet and outlet hoses before it reaches the heater core and it's probably reducing efficiency. Meh.. I wish people would fix things how they are supposed to be fixed.
