    Replaced oil pan... car wont run?

    i nicked my pan bought a new one and put it on yesterday now the car wont run it starts up the first try and then shuts off immediately.... now i had first thought that it was because i had it on jack stands and the fuel had moved to the back of the tank because it was on the stands so long and the car wasnt getting enough fuel to stay running. so i leveled it out and still nothing. it sounds as though the car is being choked for gas or something of the sort. either way it doesnt stay running. my father said it might be a vacuum problem and to check the hoses and make sure the dip stick is all the way down.. did that and still the same problem.... help would greatly be appreciated as this is my daily driver

    This sounds like the same problem I had. Did you connect the ground cable on the oil pan? That is the main engine ground for the car. Without it ground the car doesn't turn on. I started a thread about this last week or so because i had the same problem. It's grounds right there on the chassis underneath the air box.

          Did you "hoist" the engine to hold it in place while you did the work?

          Any chance you knocked a vac. line loose? Or the plug on the side of the AFM?

          Have you checked to see if it is in fact getting fuel?

          Just some ideas.

            The same will happen if the gasket wasn't put on properly. The oil system is a fully seeled system.

              so what would you suggest? i cant get a new gasket in time ......i had to search forever to get the one i have plus i was supposed to be at school this morning

                You used the old gasket with the new pan?
                If the car was fine before you worked on it, the easy conclusion is you did something wrong. That's the first place to look.

                  yea i bought a new gasket im working on it now i just got the pan loose so now im gunna pull it out and adjust the gasket so that it lines up perfect! then reinstall and if that doesnt solve it then i dunno

                    Make sure you torque the bolts EXACTLY to spec. Over tightening them will put you right back to where you were.

                      problem solved it was a vacuum leak.... i guess one of the hoses came loose when i was jacking up the motor to access the oil pan
