    Synthetic motor oil

I was thinking of running with synthetic 10W30 on my M30 engine. Is that okay to do? what are the pros and cons of running synthetic?

Will it affect the oil to my turbo at all? is it safe to use, that's all.

for turbo app's it is probably a better choice than regular oil. It can take more heat and still retain all its lubrication properties. You might want 15w40, i run 20w50 in my e30.

I bought my car with Synthetic and it burned a quart every 500-1,000 miles, switched to regular oil and no longer an issue, it's about a quart low between oil changes now.

Turbos like oils that aren't multi viscousity, stick with an "SAE 30" or something of the sort, it doesn't cake in the turbo, i'd stay away from synthetic after it burned so bad in my car.

I like your sig. (fuck you too). lol jk

Thanx for the advice. At this point, i'd be changing from regular oil to synthetic. Is it okay to mix? I believe there will still be residual oil left in the engine, so I can't have it 100% synthetic (at least until the next oil change). I think i'm going to try the 15W40 synthetic.

It's perfectly fine to mix, there's even oils on the market that are "Synthetic Blend" which is both crude and synthetic.

The thickness is up to you, i personally run thicker oil to get more oil pressure because i run my cars hard. The drawback however is losing some power, but i rather protect my engine than care about a few ponies.

Like i said though, if you're turbo, it's better to stay away from multivisciousity (15w40 is one of those).

Try it out, i guess if you notice a large amount of oil burning, switch back to crude.

I decided to run full synthetic Castrol 5W-50 for the cold winter (which has not turned out to be cold :() and I have not had to add any oil. I ran full synthetic all summer and the level never dropped where I had to refill. My engine does however only have 117,000 miles on it, and is not turboed... My grandpa, a long time automechanic, and race car driver, swears by synthetic. He likes Amsoil.

From my reading, certain cars lose alot of oil from synthetic and vice versa, i don't know what the factors are that cause it though.
