    Valve Adjustment

I took my car to a mechanic the other day to have the valves adjusted. The mechanic is a reputable BMW mechanic. He adjusted them and replaced the valve cover gasket. He told me the valves were 4/1000 under adjustment, not over.

Since he has done the work, my car has been running rough. The idle is just fine, doesn't jump at all. The car is shaking though, because I can feel it in my legs and my hands on the steering wheel. The shaking can only be felt at a stop light while its idling.

Anyone know why its doing this? Does the computer need to relearn something?

I would take it back to the guy and ask what the deal is.
Perhaps he messed up on one or two valves.

What did he set the lash at?

I plan on taking it back to him, but it would be nice to have an idea why its doing this.

Back when I re-painted the valve cover, I had trouble with keeping it run. I had to loosen the nuts on the cover a lot and that seemed to help a lot. You think the nuts are too tight?

The tightness of the nuts shouldn't affect anything.
You sure the oil cap is tight, and the crankcase vent hose, and dipstick is on and tight.? That would throw off the idle.
Also check the connections on the hoses to and from the Idle control valve.
And make sure the ground strap is there, and connections are tight.

check spark plug wires, if they were taken off.
