hesitation while accelerating

Chea, I replaced my in-tank pump, fpr, and spark plugs. Now it cranks up right away. No more hesitations when cold either. Unfortunately though, I think my starter is going out (makes horrible sound). Probably from all of those long cranking times but I'm not sure. I pray that my flywheel isn't the problem ;;.

Did u get around to replacing it?

That fixed everything? Shit, I might just skip replacing my ignition components for now and replace my fuel pump instead. I've had a sneaking suspicion for a long time it's dying a slow death, and since you had such a positive outcome, I think I'll replace it ASAP.

I also hear a whine when it's cold, and was wondering what that was.

I know I have a small leak at the fpr occasionally (have new one waiting), but I'm going to replace my in-tank fuel pump. This will be a good excuse to change my trippy fuel sending unit. Hopefully this will fix my problem.

No man, only thing I think it could be is the fuel pump! Im gonna go ahead and replace it. If its not that than Ill go ahead and do the FPR and or the injectors.

Sounds like you have the same problem. Theres like 215 K miles on my original fuel pump so it wont hurt to replace it.

Mine's an 87 is, the fuel pumps gonna be underneath the car right? I know that doesnt sound right but thats what the bently was sayin. Remember theres only 1 pump on an 87 car.

Pre '88s had two fuel pumps, one transfer pump under the rear seat, and the main fuel pump under the car. 88+ only had an in-tank pump. It's common for the transfer pump to fail, and I'm pretty sure the testing procedure for the transfer pump is fairly similar to testing the later pump.

I had this problem and it turned out to be a small crack in one of the hoses that runs from the valve cover. Once the car heated up the hose expanded and the leak went away. Something to check out at least.

The Bentley has a procedure to test the fuel pump. You'll need a voltmeter, but it doesn't look too hard. Getting to the fuel pump is easy too--it's under the back seat, and has a little door so you can get to it.

I havent listened for the whining noise yet but I will next time I drive it. I havent really noticed the power cutting out while Im cornering yet. Is there a way to check the fuel pump?

I have it happening during apply gas during hard turns (while already rolling, not from stops). Tonight it did not hesistate in turns.

does your power also cut out during hard turning? do you hear a whiny noise towards the back of the car after you're ran if for a while? ~ fuel pump.

i have both this simptoms and the long cranking times when the cars been sitting a few days. i didnt find any leaks though

if it is a vaccum leak at the fpr it is easy to check, just take some carb cleaner or some soapy water to the hose that goes from the FPR to the intake manifold. If you see bubbling replace the line. Or for $5.00 it is just as easy to replace the line.

Usually vaccum leaks are at the valve cover either at the hose connected to the valve cover or the valve cover gasket. Both are very easy to replace.

Its the line that runs to the Intake manifold on the cyl head side of the mani correct? The hose is fine, it was replaced not to long ago. My CPS was replaced not to long ago either. Ill look at it though....
