    New M-technik 1 wheel installation

I installed my new M-technik 1 wheel last night, replacing the "deadly" airbag wheel. However, I ran into a couple of problems.

First, the wheel has a clearance issue with the steering column housing. I tried to remedy this by putting a washer or two underneath it, but couldn't find one, so I flipped over the collar on the column, giving me the added 2-3mm I needed. This is only TEMPORARY.

However, now the horn contact doesn't make contact w/the ring on the wheel. Has anyone done this, and how did they get the wheel to fit correctly? I have the Bentley manual which suggests the two BMW washers to place under it made specifically for the wheel clearance issue. Should I just go buy those?

Forget your horn, it's only going to get you shot anyway. Mine is disconnected.

I think having a horn is crucial, god forbid some horrible situation might arise (kids in the road, etc.).

Sorry, can't help. Just wanted to counter Josh's argument.

        Thanks Bill... :D

I guess a horn is good for that kind of stuff. Lord knows it doesn't do any good trying to stop 90 year old men from backing into your driver side door...

Out of curiosity, whats the DB rating on the stock e30 horn?

I will always keep my horn, saved me from getting backed over in parking lots by SUVs so many times.

Well, the only reason I want to make sure it works is I have to get the car inspected in a month, and as of right now I don't "know" anyone that will skip over that part for me. Any ideas that aren't :ot: ?

Add washers. I put 2-3 washers on my M-tech 1 wheel and it's fine.

What are you talking about? Saved my ass last Friday from be side swiped by unware soccer mom coming out of the Mexican resturant with out look to her drivers side. She proceeded to look at me like it was my fault for having the right away on the street.

So I proceeded to drive 10 slower than the limit.

Fixed the problem. Added 4 thin washers under each screw holding the horn contact/turn signal reset piece on, spaced it out enough so that everything functions fine and the wheel doesn't rub. :)
