    I got one for ya...

This was on my old "e" and was never fixed before I sold it.

Everything is fine, drive around without any issues. Then 1 out of 25 times my car would not start. It would not crank. It would not do a damn thing - it seemed like the battery was dear, but it would not even click. I would wait 10 Min or so...BAM, starts right up.

Weird? However, I have always wondered what it was - I was thinking the starter - and that was my only guess.

      Electrical Arcing

Do the lights on the dash come on?

I had the same problem. Full battery, lights on the dash come on, turn the key to the start position and then nothing would happen.

It turns out that the (+) wire to the starter was not making good contact. The electricity was arcing around to a nearby nut and shorting out the starter. After it was cleaned off everything worked fine.

Check the contacts on/around the starter. Look for signs of electrical arcing like melted bolts or other parts, as well as missing paint.

My Alfa used to do that about 1 out of every 5 starts. Battery terminals were nasty...

Yes, they did. I remember just sitting there feeling like a tool. People would walk buy... "nice car" they'd say. "Thanks" I would reply - just hoping they would not ask to hear the engine run. LOL

My girlfriend love it... That's why I dumped her. (not really - she dumped me - but I got my revenge in college. ;) )

Shoddy wiring between the battery and starter me thinks.

Either wiring at the starter or a bad ignition switch.
