    Fuel Pump...

If a fuel pump is bad than the car wont run at all correct? Or am I wrong?

Depends how bad it is. When a fuel pump starts to go it'll make a loud whine noise that gets louder as the pump gets worse. I had this noise, but the car drove fine until I replaced the pump. My mechanic said the car stalled out when they were driving it onto the lift, so I guess I cut it pretty close driving there.

it might run, depending on the condition of the fuel pump. it might lose 'power' and will fall behind on the fuel needed at high rpm's, but if you can hit redline and the car doesnt sputter or anything and the car idles fine then you should be ok. but change it if you wish. its never a bad idea.

On E30s, generally, the car will be totally dead.

Occasionally on E32/E34 cars you'll get a pump that has cracked its housing and can't maintain full pressure.. the car will start and idle normally but have shit for power when you try to drive it. I've never seen an E30 do that though.

            Hey Adam,

For those of us who wait too long to change fuel pumps is there a way to temporarily get a car with an in-tank pump going? I remember tapping an external pump (much like a starter) could get you home (sometimes).

BTW, I ordered the suspension parts and have an appt with West End on 2/9. Will you be around?

On E30 in tank pumps banging on them will work sometimes.

I'll be around on the 9th, yea.
