    Lowering subframe to change Clutch

It turns out that I may need to upgrade from my stock clutch for my E30M30 turbo. The tranny is real tight against my firewall so here's my question:

How difficult is it to lower the front subframe of the car in order to make more room ro remove the tranny?. Those 4 bolts must be fused to that frame, right?. What else should I be wary of when doing this operation? What may get caught when I'm lowering this? Thank you for your help!

another route would be to unbolt the motor mounts, take off the tranny brace and driveshaft, lower tranny with jack, will tilt engine/tranny combo a couple inches. Don't know if the m30 would make that a harder process though. I did that to get more access to bitch clip.

Yeah, I thought about that. i have to check tonight if I have enough clearance on my firewall to let the engine tilt back a signicant enough amount to make a difference.

Trust me, i've been thinking of alot of different routes to get to this clutch...

Any other ideas would be really helpful. Thank you

You can lower the subframe a little bit, but be carful of the steering linkage. This will limit the driver's side to about two inches of downward travel. When removing the bolts, don't do it with an air gun. You are more likely to break the bolts off inside the frame.

yeah, i have to be careful about the steering linkage. I'll see how it goes. I'll report back tonight after I take the tranny out. Thanks guys!

Remove the 4 big bolts, undo the steering linkage, and the bolts at the top of the strut mounts. I installed my M30 on the subframe from the bottom up, and it made the job very easy.

              hahah, boo ya bitches!

I took the tranny out in 1 hr all by myself. All it took was removing the tranny mounts and letting it drop a couple inches.. no other changes, no subframe dropping. And i'm ready to put my UUC clutch in. hahaha

              thanx for the help guys
