    what part is this?

    Hi there-

There is a strange humming noise coming from this part (see picture). What part is it, and have any of you heard of this problem before?

    Thanks,

the big one I think is the fuel filter, if anything is making noise it's the pump behind it.

The humming is probably coming from the stabilizer that is foward or the filter. It the small round object just foward of the filter.

oh okay...that makes sense. Is it possible to fix the humming without replacement or do I need to replace? If I need to replace, anyone know where I can get a cheap inline fuel pump?

Well I think the prevailing thought about these pumps is that when they start buzzing, they are on their way out. I've also noticed that the louder they get the closer it is to dieing. Although I've had them die without making any noticible buzzing sound at all.

okay...thanks. I'll try to find a good price on a replacement. Should I replace the filter first to see if it is causing the pump to make the noise or is that unrelated?

I doubt the filter is *causing* the pump to make the noise, but it's good maitenance to replace it anyways, certainly couldn't hurt. Easy 15$ job.

Well, it could be so clogged it is causing the pump to work harder, but if it were that bad, the car wouldn't run, so...

I would say it's the pump. How loud is the humming? Can you hear it from inside the car, or only when you are right next to it?

I'm getting the same buzzing sound. I have a fuel filter I just bought, I'll put it in and see if that helps.

I don't have my bently near me at all. Is the fuel filter super easy to swap? just unplug, take out the old one and put in the new one?

I also doubt that the filter is causing the pump to make noise. But yes it is good practice to change it with a new pump, should be done periodically as well.

Yes easy peasy to change. Just remove the old one from the lines and install the new one the same way. Make sure it's pointing the right way though.

                          relieve fuel pressure first.
