    % Lock-up on Differentials

    Can someone explain/correct my thoughts on percent lock-up in LSD's?

    The greater the lock-up %, the more the equally the power is distributed between the 2 wheels.
    The more lock-up, the higher the chance you will get "hop" around corners under hard acceleration?

    What is a good % of lock-up would be too severe for road/track duty?

    It's a % of torque transfer.

    Most all stock diffs are 25%. Most track are around 50%. It messes with turn in, so you usually do not want to go over 50, it's just fighting the car to turn in, as the rear wheels just want to go straight.

      all the E36 guys run about 40% lockup on a modified BMW LSD diff
      I can get about 45% lockup on my LSD with some shimming.
      Dan@Rimpro runs a 50% lockup with his Stickley E36 M3 Sedan and has no problems.
      You will see increased tire wear and a noisier rear end
      Dan@Rimpro can also get your stock LSD modified to almost whatever lockup you want for under $1000

        Can I also suggest a Kaaz Multiplate Rear differential?
        probably the best LSD you can get
        ~$1200 though.
        however you can modify the clutch plates to lock up anywhere between 0% and 100% with mere hand tools once you have the carrier out of the car
        if you need info on Kaaz diffs, you know where to reach me.

              Jared, Dan is running a 60% lock-up. That's what I'm looking into also, but I have no money right now, so we'll see where it goes.
