    Heater Hose confusion

Some of you may remember the thread I made a while ago about my hacked up heater core hose. http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ht=heater+hose

Well, I got around to taking off the other hose, and this is the piece that was connected to the heater inlet hose. ( with a bypass hose from the outlet going to it).

Obviously It's a BMW part, but i was told in the last thread that my hoses should not be cut up with attachments in between them. Can anyone help?

Thanks a ton guys. I guess the people in the other thread were wrong about the tees and such not being needed.

Looks like the extra thermostat might be an 'optional' piece. Maybe get some mor input before you commit to keeping or trashing it. Neither of my shit boxes have it but that doesn't mean shit.:D

If it was faulty, do u think this could be a reason why my heat doesnt work so well? Even when the car is fully warmed up (between 1st mark and halfway)

How good does your heat work? I may just toss the extra tstat

              bingo,

Think about it, if the thermostat is stuck closed it isn't gonna get warm in the car... My heat is ok but it looks like my engine thermostat is stuck open because the car doesn't warm up very well. I havent fixed it because I plan on dropping in my I motor in the next few weeks and I almost never drive it.

Don't jump the gun on my input, although you it looks like you might me able to put it together with out and always go back if you change your mind. What does the small hose T off to?

I am interested in more feedback on the piece because I have honestly never run across this before.

I remember seeing somewhere that e30s had heater core problems that caused them to burst. Maybe the extra tstat was done as a recall to fix that seeing as your car, which is an earlier model, doesnt have it.

The small hose from the extra tstat goes to the outlet heater hose that i had to cut up to attach the T (number 12 in the diagram).

I'll take ur advice and not jump the gun this time though. Anyone else have any opinions on this?

Pelican parts has it for $24.00. Why not just buy another one just to be safe? I'm thinking you're onto something with the heater core recall. For such a cheap part, you might as well replace it and no worry about it.
