    Heat Problems

    Weird shit...

My heat isn't working too well. When I'm idling at a stop light, the heat stops blowing warm. When I move, it blows warm. Its kinda like the car isn't heated up until I move, and after I'm done moving and sitting, it cools down and doesn't blow warm anymore.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Perhaps the thermostat is stuck open, ever replaced it?
Are the hoses hot that go in and out of the heater core?
The blower motor is working correctly on all speeds, right?

The blower works at all speeds and it does blow warm (no difference in temp) when I'm moving.

Would that mean I need to replace the thermostat?

hmm does it do this all the time or only when the car is warming up?
also does it get warmer if you rev up the engine while in neutral and sitting?

i'm leaning towards a thermostat also.

I had the same symptoms as you last month, and it was a bad thermostat. They are not too bad money wise and are easy to replace.

It has yet to overheat, or start to look like it wants to. That hasn't been replaced from what I can see (receipt book). I just did the water pump 2 months ago.

I'm jus going to replace it and give it a try!

            Thanks for the help everyone!

You may also have problems with coolant flow through the heater core, or perhaps the blend door is stuck.
But try the thermostat, its cheap and should be done anyway.,

Heh, replaced the thermostat earlier today. Went to refill th coolant that leaked when I removed the hose and found I was super low on coolant. Back when I put a new water pump in, the coolant bleeder screw was stuck so i couldn't properly bleed the system of air. I checked it over a 2 month period and kept filling it. I stopped checking it after it didn't seem to want anymore. The system must have burped.

Anyways, long story short, I did some prevenatory maintenance by replacing the thermostat. Heat works fine and everything else is peachy.

                  Thanks for the help again.

bimmer8604, thanks for the compliment! The car is euro BTW. Doesn't just have euro bumpers bolted on ;)
